How the Value Ruler Works

The Maxing Marriott Value Ruler

A fast, visual way to see whether a non-resort Club Points option is delivering enough value to consider

One glance. A clearer decision

This example is intentionally fictional. It shows how an owner could evaluate an Inner Circle-style experience, Abound Escape, cruise, or tour—without reading through a spreadsheet.

Sample: Inner Circle event

Three-night music-and-food weekend

Includes hotel, programmed events, and stated inclusions This is an illustrative example only—not a real offer or price.

5,000 points × 86¢ = $4,300

Why the ruler lands at 28¢: $1,400 comparable all-in cash value ÷ 5,000 Club Points = 28¢ per point. The marker sits below the 86¢ 2027 Club Point cost benchmark, so this sample would be labeled Poor point value.

The owner sees the decision—not the homework

Value

The ruler shows the cash value received for each point used, compared with the published annual Club Point cost benchmark

Cash comparison

Use the total cash cost for the closest equivalent offer: same dates, same room or package, required fees, taxes, and inclusions.

Flexibility

Use simple, visible labels rather than a separate score: Refundable? Extra cash due? Cancellation deadline?

Quick decision details

Cash comparison ruleCompare like with like.A cruise should be compared to the same cabin, sailing, and required taxes/fees. A tour should be compared to the same itinerary and inclusions. An event should be compared to the same hotel nights, tickets, and inclusions available for cash.
Flexibility shown simplyThree small facts—not another calculation.Cancellation: 90 days
Refundable cash alternative: No
Extra cash due: $200 taxes/fees

What “fair comparison rules” means

Each category is priced differently, so the cash comparison must match what the owner actually receives. It is not a different formula—just an honest like-for-like cash price before dividing by the Club Points required.

Owner benefits are a second step—not the baseline

The Value Ruler starts with the published points requirement for the exact offer and a like-for-like cash comparison. It does not assume a particular ownership level, discount, or credit. After the neutral score is clear, an owner can check current benefits that may improve their personal result. This keeps one comparison useful to all owners while still recognizing that benefits can matter.

The annual benchmark can change. The tool stays simple

The ruler’s 86¢ benchmark is clearly labeled as the 2027 Trust Club Point annual cost. When the annual amount changes, we update one benchmark number and the ruler, labels, and formulas update with it.
